If you purchased Microsoft Works when you got your Dell, then you should have some CDs for Works.  Word is on one of those CDs.

I opened the Word Viewer that you suggested.  The site is for Word 97/ 200 Viewer [word 97] [windows 3.X].  Since I have Word 2002 and Windows XP will this download be the right one for my Dell computer?

I downloaded the program but still receive the error message.  I found Microsoft Works Suite 2003 set of 5 disc in my carton from Dell.  Should I install Disk 1 which is the Microsoft Works Suite 2003 Setup?  Will I lose any documents I have in my Word file if I install Disc 1?

I suggest you first save any existing Word docs to a CD or floppy and then use the Works CD #1 and install Word.
