Missing RAM

A year or so ago I upgraded my memory on my Dimension 8100 to 1024 MB.  I recently upgraded to Windows XP.  Today I checked my system info and it shows I only have 640 MB RAM.  What happened to the other 384 MB?  I tried to make a change in the BIOS, but am unable to do so.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks much,

Gloria Simkins

I would think that what you need to do is reseat your RAM.. But, First look here http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/systems/dsleest/codemess.htm and see if this applies. If need be, you may need to reseat your RAM. *very easy to do* go http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/systems/dsleest/rr.htm#rimms <-- there to find out how to. (this will also be in your user manual)

If that does not work- post back

I appreciate your suggestions.  I tried reseating the RIMMs, but it is still only reading 640K out of 1024K.  Do you have any other suggestions?

    Thanks,

    Gloria

Is this K, or MB? And exactly where are you getting this info?

I mistyped on my reply--it states 640MB.  I found the info in "View Systems Information" in "My Computer."  I have 4 memory cards installed of 256MB each, for what should be total RAM of 1024 MB.
