Use the "System Restore" function and restore your PC back to a date/time when it did work. 

 

You can access System Restore from Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools

I was curious about what "windows dancer" was and found that you can download it at MS: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/desktop/dancers.mspx

My system restore no longer works or I would have done that. It has not worked for awhile now.

I would be more interested in why your system restore "hasn't worked for a while."    If this is your computer, see this link for instructions on how to turn restore on or off.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310405/en-us .  If htis turns out not to be the problem, you may want to do a virus scan from your feshly updated AV program.  You should also do a spyware scan from some of the free programs available such as Windows Defender found at www.microsoft.com/downloads .

My system restore hasn't worked since I installed norton systemworks with goback. Goback was confusing so I uninstalled norton and reinstalled without goback. My system restore still did not work and I cannot get it back. I tried troubleshooting it but did not help.

pastle, it is possible that you will find a product to completely remove Norton Goback on the Symantec support pages.  I suspect restore will not work until you have completely removed Norton Go back.  Have you tried to turn it on from the link I posted?

Yes, I did that. It is turned on according to that but still does not work.

Assuming you had Go Back version 4 installed, you can completely remove the program by inserting the install disk and follow the instructions here.  .http://service1.symantec.com/Support/goback.nsf/docid/2006100623211658?Open&src=hot&docid=2003050713255158&nsf=goback.nsf&view=docid&seg=hho&lg=en&ct=us&pid=2003050713255158&pkb=goback .  If you have a different version, search for it on the Symantec site under http//:service1.symantec.com/support/goback .

Not sure what the version was, it came on the 2006 SystemWorks CD. It has been removed from my computer. But System Restore still does not work.

Then you have version 4.  Use the tool in the link to remove residual pieces of the program.  This is what is preventing you from using restore.
