Multiple Partitions

I recently went to reinstall Windows 7 thinking it would replace the original but it didn't (my fault). So now I have 2 partitions: the original C: drive and the recovery on the E: drive. I already have all my personal files (pictures, documents, etc) saved onto an external hard drive so I would be fine wiping out my computer completely and starting new. I still have all the disks that came with the laptop (Windows 7, Drivers and Utilities, etc). I'm running a Dell Studio 1558 on Windows 7.

You still might be able to use the Recovery Partition to reinstall win 7 if it is not damaged--which might not be possible after your reinstall. Follow the directions HERE

If that is not possible, you need to follow the manual reinstall directions. Be sure to use Windows Backup & Restore to make a system repair cd/dvd disk to boot the computer and a system image on an external hard drive after a successful restore. If you did make these when you first got the computer, you can use the system image to restore to factory settings and undo the failed installation.

Look up Recovery in Help--before you do anything. It's a good primer on Win 7 recovery options which are different from previous versions of windows.
