Need alternative scanner software

I don't think there is any.  Youi must use the vendor supplied drivers/scanning software.  This is true with any brand, not just HP. 

Is it the software or the twain driver? You have to use the Hp twain driver. You can check to see if Silverfast SE will work with your scanner.

There are a number of third party scanner software out there. The best is Vuescan by Hamrick, but you need to check if its compatible with your scanner.  Check out the other link for alternatives as well.

Thanks to all that chimed in!  I wanted to let you know I had a shortcut in my start menue which led to my old backups containing a zillion files & Programs.  HP Tech suggested moving it because The software had to look through all the links to see if any applications needed to use the scanner.  Crosss your fingers, I am scanning now.

I checked out your link to Vuescan.  My scanner was listed in the unsupported list.  Thanks anyway!
