Need help removing Quickset.

Question

I hope I've come to the right place for this.

I have an interesting issue that I've been unable to resolve. I have an Inspiron n5030, but the hard drive that I'm using was one that came out of an Inspiron 1520. The power supply went out on it again, so I can't just plug it back in and remove the program in question. Since this hard drive came out of the 1520, it has that systems Quickset utility installed still. Is there any way I can remove the quickset utility without having to reinstall windows?

Not sure if this is of any importance to the issue, but my specs are:

Inspiron N5030, Windows 8 Pro with Media Center, 3 GB ram, Intel T7250 2.0 GHz (no, this is not the processor that came with the 5030, I just liked it better so I pulled it out of the 1520)

Hi Kelevra,

It seems the application has gone corrupt. You may uninstall the quickset utility for Inspiron 1520, using software like Revo Uninstaller. Although, Dell has not tested or endorse it. Please ensure to create a system restore point as suggested by natakuc4.

Please share weather you have replaced just the processor or the complete motherboard.

Not to insult or anything, but come on, you think I wouldn't have thought of that? When I try to uninstall it, I get a message saying, 'This is not a supported system'.

As I stated in the original post the power supply is burnt out on that motherboard. So I can't just plug my hard drive back into the original computer.

Hi Kelevra,

I would suggest you to put the HDD back into Inspiron 1520 and uninstall quickset utility while the HDD is still in 1520. After removing the application, install the HDD back on Inspiron n5030.

Create a system restore point.

Next kill the process for Dell Quickset using the task manager.

Next physically delete the Quickset folder in Program Files.

Restart your computer. Likely you will get an error upon startup saying a program or dll is missing.

Use CCleaner's cleaner and registry cleaner to get rid of the invalid startup entries. If you then restart your computer and go to add/remove programs and click on Dell Quickset it should say some error that the program is already removed and ask you if you want it removed from the add/remove programs list. You should then be able to install the other systems Quickset if you wish.

I've already done that, removed it from startup deleted its program files folder cleaned up with ccleaner, but after I try to remove the program, I still get the error that this is not a supported system

The motherboard doesn't have the same form factor between the two systems. Even if it did, I would've still had to replace it, since the 1520's was no good to me. No, the only thing I was able to transfer from one system to the other was the T7250 processor, and the HDD. I'll download that program and see if it gets me anywhere.

**UPDATE**

The Revo Uninstaller seems to have been able to remove it, and all it's registry entries, folders... As far as I can tell it's completely gone. Thank you
