Need to RE-INSTALL Windows 8 - but Media and Product Key is not provided by DELL!!!

How could I possibly re-install Windows 8 on my brand new DELL Inspiron 660 desktop PC which came with a pre-installed Windows 8?

The DELL "System Recovery Media" seems to be nothing more but a disk-image (plus a restore tool) of my hard disk which could be copied back (automatically) to (a similar sized!) disk in case of a disaster. But it will NOT allow for the re-installation of Windows 8!

This will NOT allow  for the installation of Windows 8 on e.g. a smaller disk (like my 128GB SSD)!
This will NOT allow  for a fresh, clean installation according to my needs and without the bloatware which comes pre-installed!

I think this is really annoying and completely inacceptable.

Or do I miss some trivial trick here?
Any hint is most welcome!

As stated in this thread ... call Dell or use the form to request a DVD.

You need a Windows 8 Reinstallation DVD or a Windows 8.1 .iso, for more details about requesting media from Dell see here:

Unfortunately the Windows 8.1 installation .iso cannot be downloaded from Microsoft for an OEM license see here for details which discusses the use of a retail .iso:

If you can get the Windows 8.1 MSDN/TechNet .iso follow the instructions here:

Dear Rajath

I have received a windows 8 OS dvd from Dell recently as I need to recover the OS on my Inspiron 15 laptop.

When I load the dvd, it asks fro the product key. As per your reply, the key is embeded in the BIOS. But for how much time one is supposed to wait at this point as it the installation does not move forward beyond this point ?Am I missing out on something?

An early response is requested.

regards

It should input the key immediately. If it doesn't there is something wrong with the installation media. Microsoft made a mistake with the Windows 8.1 installation media in that it does not accept a Windows 8.0 product key and vice versa. They have rectified their mistake with the Windows Media Creation Tool which will give a Windows 8.1 with Update 1 which accepts both Windows 8.0 and 8.1 product keys:

I advise installing with this media, if it doesn't work and you get hung up on the product key screen you will need to input a generic product key to allow installation. After installation you will need to download and launch a utility called RW-Everything and select ACPI tables and the MSDM tab.

If there is no MSDM tab then you will need to call Dell to have your motherboard replaced.

ya same here. I have installed windows on computers. and my computer . but my niece got this dell inspiron 660 and other than a flacky *** on the cover for the sd card. its been ok . well she calls me up complaining of lockups and freezes. . to my horror a ton of bad sectors on the hard drive prevented me from migrating the os from the drive to a new drive.  I got her Microsoft number from the os by using speccy . so I record her number and got a windows 8.1 cd. but dells bios don't recognize that the new drive has an disk in it. wont boot . took a copy of my windows 7 and migrated it to the new drive.  nope . still wont boot . now it sees the drive as a sata device and it sees the cd rom.  but don't see it when it boots up. I have changed the bios to change the boot order . nope . not gonna happen. . what did I miss.  dell wants more money?  please help .  I have given her my word. got to keep at it.  gonna put her drive in and see if it boots.  any ideas ??
