.NET Framework 1.0 Service Pack 3has

has everyone or anyone had to install these critical updates after installing SP2?

.NET Framework 1.0 Service Pack 3

.NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1

have them listed on windows update for my machine and haven't heard anything prior to this about them. Seems like there is always a heads up on this forum concerning service packs before they are actually available. Have SP 2 installed on XP Home.

Thanks!

Hi bogey

Unless you have a program that requires .Net Framework no you don't need it, if and when you do need it get 1.1 only. It takes a lot of space on your hard drive and seldom if any need for it at this time.

bogeymanjgct,

If you have Dell Support installed on your computer you have .Net Framework 1.1. The service pack would not be shown as a critical update if you did not have it installed. If you have it, you will see it listed in Add/Remove Programs. (Frankly, you don't need either one unless .Net Framework is used by something other than Dell Support.)

thanks- I guess I don't know what framework is or if/when I would ever need it in the first place.....have lots of hard drive room, however.

Regarding .NET Framework need, while this isn't XP related as such, the new ATI Radeon series Driver Control Center that replaces the existing version of CC does require .NET Framework to function.  Look in the video forum for more posts/info on this and Tom's Hardware web site here: http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20040902/index.html

As Denny has said, since you are offered both of these upgrades, you already have both .NET Framework 1.0 and .NET Framework 1.1 installed. Both of the service packs you are offered are labeled as critical, since they contain essential security fixes. You should install service packs for all .NET versions you have installed, or uninstall the .NET Framework version you don't need. Unless you are a developer with specific needs, the newer one of the two versions (version 1.1) is sufficient, you don't need version 1.0 as well.
