.NET Framework Problems After Update

I installed the following recent Windows updates: Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB917283) , & Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 (KB886903).

After the updates were installed, I began getting 10 “Missing Program Files” messages when I run Norton SystemWorks One Button Checkup.

The first one is: “C\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\AppLaunch.exe” cannot access a necessary file, “msvcr80.dll.” Does this mean that NET Framework isn't opening?

All 10 say: “C\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\****” cannot access a necessary file, “msvcr80.dll.”

I tried uninstalling & reinstalling Microsoft .net Framework 1.1, Microsoft .net Framework 1.1 Hotfix (KB886903), & Microsoft .net Framework 2.0, then installing the updates again.

I am still getting the same getting 10 “Missing Program Files” messages when I run Norton SystemWorks One Button Checkup.

Any suggestions?

Why do you need Net Framework? It's not an essential part of Windows and you can uninstall it and leave it uninstalled. Your main problem is System Works. You should uninstall that Windows 98 program asap. Even Symantec doesn't recommend using it with XP. Upgrade to Norton (or another) Security Suite for XP.

What makes you think that the message is related to your having installed .NET framework? Does it tell you which programme files are missing? As Mary says, Systemworks may not be reliable with XP.

Sorry, i do haveSecurity Suite for XP. It doesn't say I am missing any files, just says: cannot access a necessary file, “msvcr80.dll.”
