Norton systemworks 2007 basic edition cannot be installed/configured

Have a Dell XPS M1210 XP sp2 (Dutch) with Norton Internet sec 2006 pre-installed. Recently bought via de Symantec web Systemworks basic edition 2007.
When installing the installation freezes and locks up when it is in the configuration step (cannot even enter the subscription code). Having removed all norton sw and started from scratch does not even help.
Any similar experiences and is there a possible solution? Acquired the software via the dutch website but I am currently based in the middle east (qatar). Could that have to do with it, regional issues?

Symantec has a special  tool for removing their own product. Google "remove Norton" and go to the Symantec link. Read the warning carefully, this will remove ALL Norton products from your machine.

Norton is extremely difficult to remove using the un install program that it comes with. This should get rid of the junk that your un install left behind.

From their site...

"Use the Norton Removal Tool to remove a failed installation or a damaged Norton product."

"The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2007/2006/2005/2004/2003 products from your computer. Before you continue, make sure that you have the installation CDs or downloaded installation files for any Norton products that you want to reinstall. Also, if you use ACT! or WinFAX, back up those databases and uninstall those products."

Good luck.
