The user accounts are regular users. From Control panel, users, select regular user - all fine as soon as I try to apply parental controls the parental control option box appears but immediately up pops the annoying "unable to make changes to parental controls..." box and I cannot go any further.
Incidentally I am able to make other changes on the standard users account ie. change password/picture etc, just not parental controls.:emotion-12:
No offence taken, I am the first to admit to my total numptiness when it comes to IT. Windows vista home premium updates I assumed happened automatically as I shut down I often have Windows updates box pop up, is there more that I should be doing to ensure the updates are complete?

SWB21 - Jeff Here
A couple potentail solutions:
I assume the User Accounts you are attempting to apply "Parental Controls" to are "Regular Users", not Administrator User Id's.
Go to Contol Panel, Users, select one ID, then try to apply "Parental Controls" option. It will instruct you from that point.
Let me know if that works or not please. Lots of folks are having the same issue.

SWB21 - Jeff here again,
I like to start with the basics and assume nothing. I hopr this question does NOT OFFEND you:
I assume you have installed all the Windows Vista Home premium UPDATES. Just Please verify that for me.
Sorry,
Jeff

Sharon,
It sounds like you have "Windows Auto Update" running. That's Correct. That's best.
No need to do anything else.
I need to do more research. We'll get this fixed.

SWB21; I have not found any "software" problems for Vista parental controls. Following is a very good step-by-step link to
The Microsoft Parental Control Usage process. It's a good document. Let me know:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Set-up-Parental-Controls I will also try it myself. Jeff
