PLEASE PLEASE HELP!!

hi everyone just loged on and new to this forum, I have purchased a Dell lattitude CSX have just got on line with it and it runs on windows 98' windows automatic update came on whentr to start to down load, no probs, battery worning light came on so whent to plug in external power cable the machine went off, went to turn back on and every time now it comes up with ilegal error please contact vendor the say's close or details in details it then say's expolorer problem. Please can any one tell me what to do? Steve.

Can you rewrite that so it makes sense?  I would like to help but I am confused.  Through your ebonicx it sounds like you might have to reload windows.  If your computer just arbitrarily shuts off, it could be for multiple reasons.  If it is booting fine other than the error that pops up, it could be that when it shut off you lost a .cfg file that was necessary for Windows stability.   Other than that i have no idea.

thanxs for getting back to me I am sorry that I don't know how to write the question but I will try to clear up a few things, it will load up the 98' windows sign then it will ask for my windows pasword, it then say's this, 'This program has performed an ilegal operation and will shut down' what do you think can I fix it? amanda-h, See if the procedure here allows you to boot normally if you select an older copy of a good registry.
