Problems logging on Windows XP (corrupt or missing file )

hi there , i`ve been having problems lately since last fri logging into my computer and gainign acces to Windows everytime i turn on my computer and it ends up with a black screen with this message : ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Windows could not start because of the following file is missing or corrupt : Croot\system32\hal.dll Please reinstall fix and reboot once its finished . ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i`ve tried using the Dell Resource CD myself and the Windows XP cd to try to boot through the cds and reinstall that particualar file . is there anyone that can help and send me a guide or walkthrough in order to fix the problem ...and tell me what the problem is thank you very much .

Your XP reinstallation CD. If you don't have one contact Dell at one of the links in this post and request an XP reinstallation CD.

i logged in rebooted and used windows xp cd as you said . i clicked on the Recovery Console option and it shows this :

Windows Recovery Console

Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.
Make sure any hardrives a powered on an properly connected to your computer , and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct . This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program .

Setup cannot continue . To quit Press F3
No Events found!
