Program Not Responding error message - Can you help ?

I have a  PC- Dimension B110
It is brand new
When I am working online, I will get the Program Not Repsonding Message and everything freezes up and I will have to start all over.
This happens quite often.
I find that if I slow down, it will not happen as much but is this going to always happen or do I have to work real slow forever ?
Does anyone have any suggestions for me ?
Thanks in advance :)

What program is "not responding". And by starting all over, do you have to manually power off the PC and restart or can you just restart the not responding program? (the way XP was designed to work if a program aborts).

Also, if you have one of the basic machines with only 256 MB of memory, consider upgrading to at least 512MB. Windows XP manages memory very efficiently but it is a memory hog and 256 is really inadequate.

Any program I am on at the time will do that. I don't have to shut it down manually, I can click on the X and it will take a minute to close everything and take me back to the desk top.
I did get 512 MB so I don't think that could be it.

Thank you for your reply

Since it is new, call Dell support. Your best bet. I suspect they will have you do a complete reinstall back to the way it was when you first got it, so back up your user data to a CD-R before you call. Or, you can go ahead and restore the PC yourself and see if that fixes it. I know that's a hassle but it's something that may have to be done.
