Use WordPad to open it and view the file.  WordPad is part of the Windows installation.

I'm assuming that the file has an extension of .RTF.
Use Windows Explorer and navigate to a rich text file.
Right click on it while holding down the shift key.
    choose "Open with"
    Select WordPad.

If you want the files to always open with WordPad, choose to "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" by checking the box.  Then hit OK.

You should be able to open *.rtf files with Wordpad, Word, or WordPerfect--or whatever word processing program you're using. Edit: Oops, BayWolf's answer wasn't there when I started.

Thank You Both.  Problem Solved. I would have thought that double clicking the file would have opened it, if the right soltware was in place. Thanks again. Tele2
