secure sites

My brandnew Inspiron 8600 will not let me onto secure sites at all.  E-bay, amazon, my e-mail i have tried them all.  I have gone to internet options and done the basics nothing is working.  I also have done a system restore and re-installed windows and I still can't get onto secure sites.  Help!

My brother in law had the same problem with windows 98 se. I checked the internet options security settings all were ok,make sure cookies are enabled. What fixed my brother in laws computer was a repair of internet explorer,go to add remove Internet Explorer 6.x Repair for Windows XP
    • From the Start menu, select Search, select All Files and Folders.
    • Select More Advanced Options and place a checkmark beside Search Hidden Files and Folders option.
    • Ensure that Search System Folders and Search Subfolders are also checked.
    • In the All or Part of the File Name box, type ie.inf
    • In the Look In drop-down menu, select C: or the letter of the hard drive that contains the Windows folder.
    • Click the Search button.
    • In the search results pane, find the ie.inf file located in Windows\Inf folder.
    • Right click the ie.inf file and click Install on the context menu.
    • Reboot the computer when the file copy process is complete.
programs click on internet explorer click change remove

open IE... go to Internet Options>Advanced Tab make sure USE SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0 are checked

In IE Tools, Internet options, advanced tab, make sure the following are checked:

    Use SSL 2

    Use SSL 3

    Use TSL

You've probably tried this already but if not goto tools » internet options » security tab »
trusted sites » click on sites and uncheck 'require server verification.....(https)....'
