Sonic?

Do I need the Sonic program in order for Media Center to work?  My d(ang)h deleted the Sonic programs, figuring they were the same burning type program as our Easy CD Creator.  I keep getting the message that the Tuner Is Not Installed, though I have the cable and TV hooked up.  I can only find Sonic on the MCE backup CD, and it won't install, as it says it needs the AuthorScript.dll file, which I cannot find anywhere.

So, other than kicking my hubby, is there a way to get around this problem?  I e-mailed customer support, but they couldn't help.

Thanks,
Lynn

Lynn - I have the same setup as you it seems.  I removed all SONIC except for the DVD Player.  I now use the CD Creator software that I had with previous Dell.  I had problems until I updated the CD Creater software.  Wish I could remember the exact URL for that but have forgotten.  I think you could search for it by using Sonic's Web Site as they are the present owners of CD Creator something similiar.  Once you get the update there is no use for SONIC Record Now and the other cr-- that goes with it.  Hate that program.
Initially I had some problems with the Tuner in MCE.  I did a SFC which probably wasn't necessary, and then I started over just like the PC came out.  Went through the whole setup procedure.  All is well now. Try that and see if it will help you out.

Maybe someone will be able to give you direct guidance to the Web Site for the CD Creador update.

    Hi Mudd,

Thanks for all the info!  I did end up doing a SFC, too, and now my tuner is working.  Now, I just need dh to get the cables connected and for me to reinstall all my stuff, again.

    Thanks again,

    Lynn

That's good news.  Best of luck on the rest.

Thanks, Mudd, but it's not going well.  After I installed all my own software (2nd time this week), the tuner quit working, again.  I am about to tear my hair out!  I just have the TV cable installed, just like I did before I installed my stuff.  I have used Windows versions since back to 3.1 and have never had such a problem!  I should have just stuck with good 'ol XP.  I guess I'll just have to pick and choose some programs to uninstall and see if it helps.
