You may have a spare copy of the SP2 version of dot4.sys in the folder C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DLLCACHE
If you upgraded from XP SP1 to SP2, you may find it also in C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386. The upgrade put the file in both those places on my system.
If you have one of those spares, copy it to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS and try the install again.
According to this post (scroll down the page, ignore the view solution button)
which should be in the same folder(s), copy them all tot the drivers folder.
If you can't find the file on your drive (in folder options, view tab, make sure that show hidden filesand folders is checked, hide extensions of known file types is unchecked (so you can see the .sys exrtension) and hide protected operating system files is also unchecked; click Apply, OK), you can find some other suggestions by googling for dot4.sys. There are some sites that say they have a fix, others that offer the download (but for a little money, also make sure it is v 5.1.2600.2180, 203 KB, or later, not an earlier version).
If you are not sure that you have SP2 installed, right click My computer, click properties and on the General tab, under System, see if it states Service pack 2.
