I am running Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002 Service Pack 2 on a Dell Dimension 8300 that I purchased new from Dell in 2004.  Recently, the Standby button on the remote control has stopped functioning; when I press the button, my computer does not go into standby mode.  The other buttons on the remote control function properly, and the standby button has only stopped functioning within the past week.  I researched this issue on Microsoft's knowledge base, and they indicate this is an issue in Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.  They also provided a workaround, which consists of pressing another button on the remote control and then pressing the standby button.  I tried their suggested workaround but it did not work.

 

As I understand from both Microsoft and Dell, the only way I can get a current version of Windows XP Media Center Edition is to purchase a new Media Center PC.

 

I would appreciate any feedback you might be able to provide so that I can resolve this problem.
