System Restor not working.
I have a Dell Demension2350. 60 GB hd and 512 MB ram.
When I try to restore my computer to an earlier date, I get this message.
Your computer cannot be restored.
No changes have been made to your computer.
I have tried several Restore Points and I keep getting that message.
I did two virus scans to make sure that my computer was clean and they both came up saying that there were no viruses.
Can anyone help me please ?
Thanks so much.
Valerie

Thankyou for your post.
It's almost 2 am and the System Restore still won't work. I did everything that they said on the Microsoft webpage....trying to restore in safe mode didn't work.
I did a sfc with my WindowsXP disc and I scanned my computer.....and it still doesn't work.
I also noticed that that all my name/passwords are not coming up any more...usually I just click in the box and they pop up.
If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know.
I think the System Restore is very important and would really hate to lose it.
Thanks

Go to Start|Control Panel|System|System Restore tab. Check the box to disable system restore on all drives. Reboot, then go back and uncheck that box. Create a restore point manually then see if you can restore to it.

Thankyou so much.....that worked !
You guys are the BEST !
I was really afraid to get rid of all my restore points but it worked and I am so glad.
Now I just have to figure out why my name/passwords don't appear any more when I am filling out a form...but that's only little stuff...you fixed the main problem...and I really appreciate it.
Thanks so very much.

Thankyou...
My autocomplete was on...but I erased everything and restarted my computer and turned it back on....so hopefully it will start working...although I don't see it working yet.
That is a good idea about making my own manual restores.....I actually restore it myself....after defrag and cleaning up ...about once a month...but maybe I will start doing it on a weekly basis.
Thankyou all for you imput and help.
I really appreciate it.

In Internet Explorer go to Tools|Internet Options|Content tab. Click the "Autocomplete" button and make sure that feature is set to remember User Names and Passwords on Forms.

From Windows XP Inside Out: System Restore creates restore points at regular intervals, regardless of user activity: By default, System Restore creates a restore point every 24 hours if you leave your computer on. If you shut down your computer, the System Restore service creates a new restore point when you restart, if the most recent restore point was more than 24 hours ago.

I can only give my perspective how my Pc reacts. It will only create a restore point by leaving your PC on, if you have a period of 10 to 15 minutes of inactivity. That means no keyboard strokes, etc. So if I am continually using the PC while its on, no restore point is set on my PC. I have checked this to verify. My PC does not create a restore point when I shut down and restart, if my most recent restore point is over 24 hours old. It does create a point after installing Microsoft Updates. My PC is shut down at least three times a day, and my lastest restore point is a week ago. I use no screen saver, power options, etc. As I stated, this is how my PC has always sets points, and may or may not be how yours reacts. Kip
