Most of the larger "security" software vendors are having issues with Vista, it is not Vista' fault. They are trying to secure things that are already secure in Vista, stupid imho.

Here is my 2 cents on the subject.

Vista is secure on it's own, no need for security suite's to be installed, all you need is a good Anti-Virus software, and leave it at that.

My computer also came with Trend Micro. I got rid of it because of problems and went back to the free version of AVG (grisoft). Works well, no Vista problems, and a top-rate anti-virus.

FWIW, although Defender has improved quite a bit, I still run the free version of Zone Alarm as a firewall. Defender must be shut off to do this.

What suggestions do you have for which antivirus program?

I also have Trend Micro PC-Cillin Internet Security 14 installed on my computer and I have not had any problems.  Bought my Xps 410 a year ago and have had no issues.

I'm sure I'll jinx myself, but I see a lot of users with many problems with Vista, Dell, etc., but I have had no issues and am very happy with my system.  I guess I'm just lucky.

I wish Dell sold lottery tickets.

It sounds to me like you want it to scan when no one is loged on.
I don't think that, That is possible.
If you don't want all the bells and whistles in Trend Micro, you can simply turn off the functions that you don't want.

I have the same problem with Trend Micro and Vista. Had to uninstal and now works fine. Have already posted my problem on this forum with no resolution except to use a different antivirus/firewall.

Which is fine but the problem I have is my XPS1530 came with a 15mth subscription, which would have been factored into the cost of the system. So basically I have paid for something that does not work. What would Dell's position be on this ? Do I get a credit back that is equivalent to the cost of the program and the subscription or will tehy send me another program that will be compatible with Vista ?

And before anyone asks, no... when I bought the system I did not have a choice to not get Trend Micro. It was part of the bundle.

I guess I will have to take it up with Dell.

Don't get me wrong, but I love my XPS1530 but just the fact that I am paying for something that is not compatible is annoying.

I too have been running Trend since day one with my Vista Ultimate installation over a year and No Problems whatsoever.

Odd that some do and some do not.

My only problem with Trend was the firewall.  No matter what I did as far allowing exceptions etc.  I could not get the wireless to work.  If I turned the firewall off I could get it to work.  If I turned the firewall it back on then it would stay connected till I logged on again and the I would have to turn the firewall off again.  I finally left the Trend firewall off and enabled the Vista firewall which I have no problem with.

I have the same problem with my Inspiron 1720 . The firewall seems to work ok ,except it shuts down and comes back on every once in a while. The problem with mine is my virus protection is out dated and it will not let me update it. I cannot get into the panel to change any settings either. My bundle also came with a 15 mth subscription .
