Using the Advanced Forum Search on the bottom of this page, you can quite easily find the answer to this often asked question.

Your hard drive has likely failed.  Reboot and hit F12 during booting to run Dell diagnostics.

After checking the disk with HD diagnostics run this command from the RC:

chkdsk /r (Note: space after the "k")

I have been receiving this error for the last six months on my Dimension 3000.  I ran all diagnostics through Dell support and was told this was not a hardware problem but a software issue.  I wiped my hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP Home Edition with only the basic operating software needed and this still happens.  The only solution I have found for the problem is to disconnect and then reconnect the connection to my hard drive.  After I do this, I have no problems for 2 weeks to a month and then the error happens again.  Does anyone have an explanation on what this tells me about my computer's problem?  I also sometimes receive the message, "Drive config 0" and "Stop: 0x000000F4. . . .  Beginning dump of physical memory" messages.

    There's a loose wire somewhere.

    Questions:

    Do you use Standby ?

Have you upgraded your BIOS to A02 ?

Do you install the chipset drivers when you re-install your XP ?

Are you sure you're connecting the HD cable ends to the proper places ? Did Dell walk you through this to check ? I ask that after reading this link:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;330100

Have you tried with a new (compatible) cable ?

I would buy a new hard drive only on the provision that the local store can prove to you that it was the hard drive failure causing the problem; good luck with that.

btw, You should start your own thread; if your problem is similar you can copy and paste a link to quote it for responders to view.
