updates freezing

trying to  replace my failing old HDD with a new ssd. Can install win 10 without issues but once it's connected to the net

get a box with "system settings have changed reboot for these changes to take effect". At this time the laptop is totally frozen and can only hold the power button in to be able to restart. It then goes to diagnosing and attempting repairs but it can't fix it so it will load again. have tried all repair options and none work.

have tried different new ssd's,uefi & legacy installs , numerous install attempts with both 10 & 11 and all give the same result

seems like it ok until it does it's 1st updates then just freezes. in addition to the normal 900 odd gb it's also showing a 75 gb unallocated partition during the install and i don't know what this is

appreciate any advice

Hello, what system do you have? What process are you using to install Windows? Using a Bootable USB drive?

Hi @compmore1 welcome to this free user-to-user Alienware laptop discussion forum.

Having created OS (C:) boot drive on the SSD, disconnect or remove the HDD, so that BIOS/UEFI will change first boot setting to the SSD.

At Alienware logo splash screen, press and hold down the F12 key to enter boot menu. Select the OS (C:) boot drive on the SSD, as the first boot option.
