How much free space is left on the hard drive? When was the last time you deleted .tmp files, cleared the browser cache and defragged the drive?

If possible, copy photos, videos, music files etc onto CD or DVD and delete them from the hard drive.

Click on Start.  Right click on My Computer.  Left click on Properties.  Click on the Advanced tab.  In the Performance  section, click on the Settings Button.  In the next window, click on the Advanced tab.  In the Virtual Memory Section, click on the Change button.  Put a check in the Custom Size, then enter Minimum and Maximum values; i.e., 512 in the Minimum box and 2048 in the Maximum box.  Click on the Set button.  Now, just click OK on each of the System Properties windows that remain open.

Note that you might have a malware bug that's eating up available memory.  Therefore, I would recommend that you update your antispyware and antivirus definitions and do a complete scan of your system.  It might help if you ran Disk Cleanup also.

Also be advised.....

The general rule is your virtual memory size should allow for at least  1.5 x your actual memory size.

If you have a huge disk with lots free space (you probably do if its a newer machine that came with a large drive), its best to just set Minimum = Maximum and set aside the maximum amount up front to avoid fragmenting your virtual memory as it grows from minimum to maximum

One last tip: Common deframentation tools do NOT defrag your virtual memory (also called page file) because its in use when Windows is running and thus CAN'T be defragged then.  But you can defrag it with PageDefrag tool.
