Jack I feel your pain. I am in the same boat. I had Vista Beta II and build 5536 loading easily on here but RC1 will not install no matter what I do. I've tried so many different methods to try and get this to work. If I come up with a solution I will be sure and let you know. Likewise for you I hope. I sure hope DELL or nVidia come out with the needed drivers or maybe even native support for our systems in Vista. Very odd and very frustrating.

Yeah, extremely bizarre that Vista doesn't support a Dell / nVidia system.. being as they are the two largest players in the market. They must have ticked someone off at Microsoft bigtime I guess.

Heard anything yet? I tried to install Vista RC1 (build 5600) this weekend and ran into the same problem. It can't see any drives and the RC1 drivers (9/1/2006) I downloaded from nVIDIA don't help. I have two Seagate 160 GB SATA drives. One is brand new, on which I plan to install Vista to dual-boot, the other is original equipment. I can see both when I boot from Windows XP, and they both work fine. Neither one shows up when installing Vista. Wish I knew who needs to fix it: nVIDIA, Dell, or Microsoft. I think Seagate's not the problem here and I've tried every way I can imagine to make it work. Guess now we wait...

I wish Delmer...trust me I am still looking for an option. If I hear before you I will post back here.

The key for me was putting the nVIDIA RC1 (9/1/06) SATARAID and SATA_IDE drivers on a USB memory stick (at the root) and booting to XP first, then selecting "Clean Install". (Before I had been booting from the Vista DVD). That let me see both drives with a warning at the bottom. Clicking the "Load Drivers" button and browsing to the root of the memory stick took care of the warning and let Vista see the drives when it rebooted. I'd suggest following the instructions in the link, though, since my description is abbreviated by comparison.

I had downloaded the drivers in the link you refer to, and unfortunately those are the ones in my earlier message and they didn't work for me. Sorry about the confusion. I double-checked and the ones that worked were these...

Fernando's post says to copy the "Legacy" folder to the root of the memory stick. I copied contents of the sataraid and sata_ide folders instead. That worked for me, although I can't say it's the "right" way to do it. He mentions those two folder in connection with the XP drivers. I tried those, with no apparent success first, I then deleted the XP drivers from the memory stick and copied the drivers from the same folders (sataraid and sata_ide) downloaded from the Vista link above.

I am running a Dell XPS 600 with two Seagate 160 Gb drives. I now can dual boot Windows XP and Windows Vista, with a different OS on each drive.

Thanks Delmer, I thought something was up with them. I'll download these new ones you mention and try them like you suggested. I have 2 160GB drives and 1 80GB drive in my XPS600. I haven't had raid setup for quite some time now as all the benchmarking I did both with Raid 0 and non-raid showed no difference in speed. I'll let you know how I make out. Appreciate the quick reply.
