Howdy Mario,

Let's just say "been there and done that" not too long ago. Not paying attention to the full details of the auction, I purchased the same type disk for a Dell that was accompanied with no key code. After talking with Microsoft and getting their response of no way, I hacked and I cracked to the best of my abilities and I cried!! LOL

Microsoft greatly enhanced their security features since 98. Never in the past in dealing with 95, 98 and ME have I come across a window's version that cannot be circumvented. But looks like with XP they finally came up with a way to do it. That's not to say that it can't be done by someone way more technically savy than me, but looks like so far the concensus is NO!!

Do like me, go back to ebay and find a reasonably priced full version cheap or nail on on auction, it far less fustrating and quicker to meet your needs than to keep trying any to circumvent it. Besides once you have an authorized copy, you'll be able to receive all your window's upgrades otherwise microsoft will bounce you. And believe me, you won't like the "gatekeeping" results that validates software that Dell owns the patents to, that Microsoft incorporated that shuts your system down with a "blue or red screen of death". And with Microsoft catching so much grief in the world and US legal realm, god forbid if they turn their attention to pirated software users to recomp their losses like the music industry, just be satisfied that they "melted" you!

Hummmm, wonder if Dell licensed Microsoft the rights or if future events on the horizon dictate an patent infringement suit. There goes another happy technoligy marriage!! LOL

Thks for the advise. I was not planning on cracking the Xp Pro but installing it as an upgrade to my legit '98.

However, it appears this looks like a hassle and may not be appropiate, as I hear on this forum.

Thks again.
