Windows 7 Install on Dell OptiPlex 755
Dear All ,
I have finally decided to update my OptiPlex 755 from XP to Win 7 , however it does not seem to accept the install and after 30 days it states I need to provide a valid key ! It is more than capable of running windows 7 and does so effortlessly !!! Is there a problem with the installed XP BIOS is it burnt onto the motherboard or can you provide a BIOS update to get around this problem ? I really don't want to get rid of the PC as it is so well built and has already provided six years of effortless performance and I want my son to use it for university work !
Trying to install Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit.
Help !!!!!!
Dave

Dell OEM SLP activation for Windows 7 doesn't work on this model as Dell never sold it with Windows 7 therefore its BIOS was not updated to accept Windows OEM SLP activation. You need to buy a retail product key. At this point in time its best to install Windows 10 Insider and use this to take an upgrade path to Windows 10 RTM:

The problem is more than the auto-activation isn't functional on that machine. The real problem is that you don't have the license/right to run Windows 7 on that machine without PURCHASING a license. Just because the auto-activation works and doesn't ask for a key/activation, that doesn't mean you can run that OS.
