Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37)

Question

This morning my computer booted up and when I went to MY COMPUTER, my CD/DVD 'D' and my DVD/CD 'E' drives were gone. They disappeared. I went to device management and saw the following error: Windows cannot initialize the device driver for this hardware. (Code 37) I tried uninstalling them. Nothing changed. I tried looking for updated drivers, it said they were up to date. I tried searching for hardware changes and nothing came up. How do I get my CD and DVD drives back. Desperate. I believe I have to change something in REGEDIT, but forgot what it was.

Reboot and see if the message goes away. You might have a bad boot that can be cured by rebooting. Make sure you are shutting down completely and not entering Standby or Hibernation. If it still occurs you can check the BIOS (Setup) to see if the drives are recognized.

Hi If the restart does not work you can ask your questions on the CD\DVD forum for your computer yes there is a REGEDIT the people on that forum will give you the links to help you get your drives working again ! The only time my drives would not work  i installed burning software that was not Vista ready and it took the drives out i had to remove the software and find one that would work with my PC! Good Luck
