Windows Update Error 80072ee2

I noticed yesterday that Windows Update has failed since 10 September 2012 with Error 80072ee2. I am running Norton 360 Version 20.1.1.2 on Windows 7 64 bit. I have tried Microsoft Fix it and I have also tried running LiveUpdate manually until there are no more updates to run. I have also run the automatic troubleshooter on Microsoft Support and the Norton Autofix in the Support section. All these attempts have failed to correct the issue. The only way I can get Windows update to work is to disable the Firewall and then manually run Windows Update. This works perfectly. How can I correct the issue?
