Windows update won't configure

HI,

My Dell Inspiron 580 received a recent Windows update.

However, the computer is unable to configure the update.

It then reverts to last known working system and reboots only for the update kick in again, and going into a cycle.

Managed to get out using the Ctrl-Alt-Del.

Help Please.

Regards

think it is a Windows OS update.

It manages to 'Initialise' but not able to Configure thereafter

Do you have the number of the update?  There have been many "Windows OS" updates.    Also is it a "critical" update or an "optional" update?

Assuming Win7...

Please answer all of the following diagnostic questions by number in your very next reply (no need to quote this post):

1. Is it a Win7 64-bit computer? (cf. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/find-out-32-or-64-bit)

2. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your subscription current?  What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)?  What third-party firewall (if any)?

3. Has a(nother) Norton application or a McAfee application EVER been installed on this computer?

4. Did a Norton free-trial or a McAfee free-trial [pick one] come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it? (Doesn't matter if you never used or Activated it.)

5. Are ALL of the following updates listed in View installed updates (not Update History)?

    • KB2530548, KB2544893, KB2476490, KB2393802, KB2535512 [or KB976932] & KB2544521 [or Windows Internet Explorer 9]
