I just checked my upgrade disk and it has all versions....I have the Home Premium Upgrade disk but it does have all the versions. If you like a copy just reply and we can set up a chat to get an address. You could have it by friday.
I think the Windows Media Center Vista Home Premium Upgrade disk is in fact Full Version Software. Its the product code that designates which version installs. I have read about people here that have done a full install with the Upgrade disk.
Dell won't send anything right now and it could be months before they send it. Several have had this issue.
I would get someone with a Business Vista to send you a copy of their disk. As long as you have the license and certificate it should work.
I have Home Premium or I would send you a copy of mine. I would find someone with business already.
If you purchased a Dell computer with WIn Vista factory installed, then you may have been entitled to an OS backup DVD. These are typically sent with all of Dell's higher end systems in addition to the ghost partition which is on the hard drive. (Not sure about the low end Dells).
In any event, if you got an upgrade DVD versus the full version of Vista "and" you purchased your machine after the official launch of Vista with factory installed Vista, you should contact Dell right away and insist that they send you the "full" OEM version of Win Vista.
You should not accept an upgrade DVD versus the full version based on what you described. Good luck :smileyhappy:
I agree, it could be months before Dell ships the right DVD. However, I would still insist that they do so and not let them off the hook (assuming you are entitled to it like you've described).
Meanwhile, you could try querry's advice and see if you can find someone with Business Vista. Good luck :smileywink:
The upgrade disk is in fact a upgrade disk. If this systems harddrive crashes I will need the OEM to restore the system. In fact, with Dell sending me a upgrade disk it implies that my system came with XP which is in fact not correct. My system was ordered with Vista Business not an upgrade to Vista. I tried contacting them twice and they keep refering me to some-one else.
If the CD is listed on your purchase order you may have it very quickly. I was thrown by the upgrade disk you were sent by mistake. A lot of people have benn waiting for upgrade kits and a few have been arriving with two copies of the dvd assistant instead of the Vista Operating System.
Tomorrow is the eydes of march and last day of this do do....
rs3627, if your system came with factory installed vista, then you MUST insist that Dell correct this error. As you said, you don't want the upgrade DVD when you were supposed to get the full OEM version with your PC.
Querry makes a good point. Make a copy of your purchase order. It will certainly indicate that Vista was factory installed. That should be a BIG clue right there that you should NOT have been sent an upgrade DVD.
Be persistent and don't let them off the hook! I would be on the phone immediately with customer care and if you need to, escalate the matter to a supervisor. What you've described is lousy customer service and I would not tolerate it for a minute. You don't have to get ugly on the phone. However, I would be VERY firm with them and let them know you expect Dell to correct this mistake.
The issue was partly resolved today. I did receive the correct installation disk today with the exception of other disks I did not request. The other disks I already have or are not needed because they have nothing to do with what's in my system. Plus Dell is trying to bill me for the disks. I have sent a response to support demanding to have the charges removed with a request to return the disks that are not needed. I'm still confused on how they this up!!!
It sounds like a true comedy of errors and Dell "should" be embarrassed by such a situation. That is good news though that you got your full OEM version of Vista from Dell.
Obviously, I would be sure to ask the names of who you are speaking to, their location, and any case number they are placing your call under. If you don't get a timely response to your e-mail, I'd be back on the phone with them again.
Sorry to hear you had to endure such a dumb issue. Hopefully you'll have the fees refunded soon.
