Windows XP , Drivers CDs

I have an Inspiron 6000 that I bought 2 years ago (out of warranty). A couple of weeks ago, I had to replace the hard drive due to a malfunction, so I ended up loosing the restoring data in the disk.

Now I'm trying to re-install the operating system but I can't do it without the proper CDs. I've been told that this Cds can be ordered to Dell, does anyone know how to order them? Will the Cds be sent to me in spite of the expired warranty?

HERE is the info, from the Dell FAQ section listed at the top of this section.

You only really need the Windows XP CD.  The drivers, chipset drivers (if applicable), etc can be downloaded from the Drivers download section.

I am trying to upgrade my Inspiron 8000 from Windows Me to Windows XP Professional. I did a reformat and clean install of Windows XP but have been unable to locate the necessary drivers. Dell technical support tells me that Inspiron 8000 computers did not ship with Windows XP so they do not recommend it or supply drivers for it. The drivers update site does not allow me to list Windows XP as my operating system so no drivers are not listed for it.  Actually, the computer seems to be operating fine without any additional drivers; however, I have read that it is necessary to load notebook system software, chipset, video adapter, modem and other drivers to make the notebook work correctly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mike
