First thing: if there is data on the drive you need, and haven't backed up, purchase a 2.5" EIDE USB 2.0 drive case, mount the drive in it, attach it to a working system and make a backup.
The return the drive to the system, press F12 at powerup, boot to the Dell diagnostics, and run an extended - NOT just a quick - hard drive test.

Thanks. The Dell diagnostics gives me an Error Code as follows :

Error Code:1000-0146
