Windows XP

Hey...I just ordered a dell laptop e1405 about 3 weeks ago, and when I turned it on about 3 days ago and I tried to double click something on my desktop, in my files and folders, or on my taskbar including internet explorer, McAfee, and Intel Pro/Set Wireless it shows up if I would have right clicked it (The rectangular box with choices of what to do with the file) and I can't double click anything to open it...Anyone know what I should do?

I think there's a step left out in the above. From control panel you select Tools which has the folder options.

    Start>Control Panel>Folder Options.
On General tab, click/select "Double-click to open an item".
