Thanks for replying Jake!  I hope that someone will solve our problems!  It will not be very satisfactory if a solution is not found soon.  If we cannot install new software; what can we do?

Not sure what you mean about the taskbar always running in the background, but you could try right click on the taskbar, click toolbars,
if Windows Media Player is checked, click on it to uncheck it.

With that taskbar checked, it is where WMP goes when it is minimised and it you can access the controls to start/stop play from there. With that taskbar unchecked, WMP goes to the normal taskbar when minimised, and you have to restore it again to get at the controls. With WMP closed, the WMP taskbar is empty. It does not 'run' as such, as far as I know.

With the taskbar empty, and all references to WMP closed, there is still a background WMP program running, somewhere; so the system thinks the player is still open.  Soundspectrum tell me that this recent feature of the Microsoft Update, is creating many problems for their customers who are now unable to complete the installation of their Music Visualisation Software they have bought.  This issue remains unresolved.  Believe me, I have tried everything!  Microsoft may have to create a repair patch for Media Player.
