XP SP2 Cannot Copy File installation problem
I have the SP2 CD from Microsoft. When installing the service pack, during the copy file process I get the error that the program cannot copy the file. The first time I tried installing SP2 the file was the apphelp.sdb could not be copied from the Window\Apppatch directory. The second time I tried installing from the CD I ignored this error and the installation again stopped and said it could not copy a .dll file from the Windows\System32 directory (can't recall the name but it was something about a Red Isam file, which I believe has something to do with the Access database (from the properties on the file)). I cancelled the installation process in both cases so I do not have SP2 installed on my computer. Note: I have tried installation from two different CD's. Getting the update from the Internet is not an option since I still use a dial-up connection at home. I have searched the Internet, contacted Microsoft, checked with my company's coporate IT people, and have not found any good answers to my question.
I have a Dimension 8250 running Windows XP Pro. I also use Office XP Pro. Both have all updates and service packs installed to date (except SP2 of course). I use two Spyware programs, Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy. There is no Spyware on my system. I keep all of my drivers and software up-to-date. I have the latest BIOS installed on the system. I use Zone Alarm as my firewall. When trying to install SP2 I turn off my virus software, Norton, as well as my firewall. I keep my start-up applications to a minimum and avoid anything running in the background when I use my computer. I do not use the Quick Launch bar. To my knowledge I am not running a virtual machine application. I have already checked to make sure none of the programs that I run or hardware would cause a problem. I have plenty of memory and hard drive space. I have never had any problem installing Microsoft updates or service packs, or any other software updates or hotfixes.
I did find one of the Microsoft knowledge base articles reference this problem but no solution. Until I can come up with a solution I am holding back on installing the update, but I would like to as soon as possible.
If anyone can help with this problem I will greatly appreciate the help. Thanks
