Studio XPS 8100, memory upgrade issue
Hello,
I'm trying to upgrade the RAM in an old XPS 8100 (initial purchase in 2010), but it won't boot : after 3-4 flickers of the screen, it stops at the DELL logo, F2 and F12 keys not responding.
Original memory (DELL original) : 2GB x 4 DDR3-1333
New memory I'm now trying to install : 4GB x 4 DDR3 1600MHz PC3-12800 CL11 non-ECC (Maker: Patriot - Ref: PSD38G1600KH)
The new RAM is faster than the original, but it should run at the slower speed of the 8100's motherboard, right ?
Is there a need to modify any of the set-ups in the BIOS ? I have just unplugged, removed, replaced, and replugged, nothing else.
Thanks for your help !

Dell's have a history of not working with some non-Dell branded memory. Memory voltage is another issue. Crucial memory listing (Crucial is guaranteed to work in a Dell) lists 1.35V memory. The Patriot memory you list, according to specs on newegg.com site is 1.5V. That could be the reason.

Thanks !
I had not noticed the voltage difference when comparing the specs :( will search for a 1.35v, and post the results. Hopefully this quest won't cost me more than upgrading to a new PC ...

DDR3 is in scalping stage now because they aren't making anymore.
You MUST HAVE LOW Density INTEL COMPATIBLE Ram
