XPS 8930, Checking Media Presence, black screen at boot
Hi, I have XPS 8930 desktop and it shows "Checking Media Presence..." black screen at boot. I could find the posting with the same symptom and the solution by adding "windows boot manager." But my bios shows only two options in the boot sequence: "onboard nic (ipv4)" and "onboard nic (ipv6)." How can I add windows boot manager? Any help?

This web page may help as it describes how to repair the MBR. Also have a look at this YouTube video. It focuses on an infected MBR but the repair process is the same for a missing or corrupted MBR.

The system is with windows 10, and I used without any problem until this morning. There was one dell update that I clicked to install - this update caused the issue?

Are you saying you can see the BIOS screens but not the desktop?
What color is power button, and steady or blinking when you power on and only see a black screen?
What Dell update did you install?
If it was a BIOS update try resetting BIOS:

The guide is generic and exact steps may vary depending on pc model.
inside 8930 bios, try to delete all the “on board nic device” in boot options.

also, re: How can I add windows boot manager
“windows boot manager” is specifically for UEFI bios which works only with GPT partition of drive.
the traditional MBR partition is only for legacy (non uefi) bios.
uefi boot manager can be confusing for many users to understand, let alone know how to fix it.
If you do not have to use uefi, consider load legacy option rom. Boot from bootable usb or DVD prepared via Microsoft Windows 10 download media. Then do a fresh clean install of Windows 10. It will be straightforward and you never need to worry about Windows boot manager.

“Check media presence” error is commonly seen when boot order includes PXE. This is consistent with reported "onboard nic (ipv4)" and "onboard nic (ipv6)." boot options.
PXE means pc tried to boot from LAN. Enter bios boot options and disable PXE.

Thank you, I tried to follow the steps, but I couldn't find "Network Interface Controller" in Step 2.
