XPS 8940, Fan Noise?

I just put on order from Dell an XPS 8940. This will have:

- Processor: i7-10700 processor(8-Core, 16M Cache, 2.9GHz to 4.8GHz),
- GPU: NVIDIA(R) GeForce RTX(TM) 2060 6GB GDDR6 graphics card,
- PSU: 500W Night Sky Bezel Chassis

I have seen a number of posts in this XPS desktop community complaining about fan noise (mostly with the XPS 8930). Will I have similar noise problems with my XPS 8940 (specs above)?

That will depend upon your specific usage regime.  If you are playing CPU intensive games . . . yes, you will experience fan noise and heat issues. Because you chose a non-"K" processor, your system will most likely come with the tiny toy CPU cooler pictured below.

Ok thanks for the info Dell630i. I also checked-out deskjockey98's full post on the cooler mod. Hopefully I won't have to do that but quiet is important. Just curious, if I had gone with the XPS 8940 with the same same specs except for a i7-10700K instead of i7-10700, would I have a machine capable of the same or better performance at a lower noise level out of the box, based on Dell's current processor/packaging options?

In my personal opinion . . . yes.  Below in the red circle is the CPU heat sink that comes with the "K" processor.  Also . . . there is a good reason certain processors are designated as "K" . . . and they are more expensive . . . for a good reason.

Hi, May I ask what Cpu cooler and case fan that is. Also will it work with a 360 watt psu? Thanks.

Hi, I'm just curious about two of 2.5 HDD brackets installed in your photo. Did you get extra one by yourself or was it like that when you got the unit?

Thanks,

Arty

The photographs are not of an XPS 8940 but a different Dell computer model that uses the same motherboard, etc., probably a G5.  His computer came with 2 x 2.5" but only 1 x 3.5", lacking the top 3.5" location.

Mine came with only one. Had to purchase another one.
