XPS 8940, liquid cooling question
I see there is a new case for XPS 8950 desktops to go along with the release of the 12th Gen CPU. They offer a liquid cooling option. Would this cooler fit a XPS 8940? Thanks!

I saw another thread where someone put a liquid cooler in an 8940 but it may have been a 92mm radiator, I am not sure if a 120mm radiator would fit at the rear of the case. Even if a 120mm would fit, I would look to aftermarket because I am not sure that the pump for the 8950 would fit the cpu socket for the 11th gen and you can probably get a better AIO cooler for the same price as the factory one.

Yes it was a asetek 92 mm aio. I'm pretty new to all this. I didn't realize the 12th gen chip could have a different mount. It looked pretty similar to me in the pictures but again I am a rookie so I'm sure there is lots I do not understand lol. Thansk for the reply!

Cars and woodworking are my thing, I am not very knowledgeable about computers either. I am glad Redxps630 and others are on these boards. They (he) have definitely helped me with questions. This forum is great and I have found that the people here are very nice and polite, even to people like me that aren't a wealth of knowledge about computers and how they work.

the issue is not with radiator or fan but the 8950 cooler is for LGA1700 socket (78x78 mm mounting hole spacing) which does not fit LGA1200 socket in 8940 (75x75 mm). Also the Z height of heatsink is different between the two sockets.
the Z-height of Socket V (LGA1700) is reduced compared to Socket H (LGA1200).
the thermal solution hole pattern (the distance between the screw-holes for the heatsink) for Intel's mainstream platforms:

Thanks! That helps a tonne. I wish I had done more research now. I was wanting to run my cpu closer to 5GHz ( I have an i9 11900k ) but am only able to manage about 3.6 amd cannot turn on turbo boost because as soon as I do the cpu heats up like fire haha.

you would really benefit from a proper 240 mm AIO. however 8940 case can not fit a 240 mm unless you drastically mod the case. this is what someone said of 120 mm AIO and its "best".
120 mm AIOs usually aren’t very good, but the Corsair H80i v2 is the best 120 mm AIO around. Without proper surface area on the radiator, most 120 mm coolers just aren’t up to snuff when it comes to cooling power. The Corsair H80i v2 solves that problem. The radiator is twice as thick, clocking in at 49mm compared to the standard 25mm. The H80i v2 doesn’t match the cooling performance of a 240mm radiator, but it gets a lot closer than a standard 120 mm one. And the Corsair H80i is still relatively cheap at around $100.
To get through the extra thick radiator, Corsair includes two SP120L PWM fans, so it’s easy to set up a push-pull configuration, but you’ll need to factor in the extra thickness of such a configuration when mounting.
