Closing applications in sleep mode

I recently purchased a new XPS 15 9510. Often, when I put the computer in sleep mode for long enough, all applications are closed when I return. I tried disabling hibernate, updating windows, updating drivers, etc. Dell support hasn't provided a solution.

Is anyone else having this issue? How can I fix this?

Thanks,

I have been working with DELL engineering for last several weeks. Level 1, Level 2 and eventually Level 3/Engineering team go around and were able to publish the fix as part of recent BOIS rollout.

For XPS 9510, "BIOS Version/Date Dell Inc. 1.7.0, 12/9/2021" seems to have fixed the problem. After applying this BIOS update, my system is running smoothly, even with fingerprint scanner enabled.

Thank you DELL!

Seems like it's turning off while left in sleep for long enough.

When you wake up, how does it act, waking or booting

I mean do you see the login screen instantly or Dell LOGO.

Also

RESET power plan to default command powercfg -restoredefaultschemes.

Run power troubleshooter from control panel.

I am having exactly same issue. When you wake up - I am on login screen directly (no DELL logo). So During sleep, I seem to be getting logged-off. When I wake-up experience is as if I am logging into the Windows.

While working Dell support, figured that there is an issue with Intel's UHD display adapter driver. I was on latest version so tried reinstalling older version, to validate the fix, it didn't work. So, I went to even older version, that seems to have fixed the issue.

30.0.100.9955 - didn't work

30.0.100.9864 - didn't work

27.20.100.9664 - Evaluating (seems to work)

When I installed older version 27.20.100.9664, I also uninstalled Hyper-V and Linux sub-system related windows features. (via Turn Windows Features on off).

@XPS_Man I have tried to reset the default power plan, it didn't help.

Recently I have gone as far as completely resetting the PC and that didn't help either...

SOLVED (Temporary workaround) - much better than loosing work during computer sleep

Temp solution - Disable fingerprint scanner in BIOS, so Windows 11 or Windows 10 version doesn't try to put this scanner in low power mode to save power and crash during the the sleep.

I made this change more than 24 hours ago, and I have tried to put computer to sleep for just few minutes, 10 mins, 30 min, 60 mins, 3-4 hours and 12+ hours, every time sleep and hibernation worked as expected, no issues at all.

Yes, I lose fingerprint windows hello functionality (very convenient) but much better than losing the work.

DELL, please listen to this feedback - work with Goodix and Microsoft and have this issue addressed, ASAP. This is hurting 100s and 1000s of Dell users.
XPS 9510 is awesome device, I almost gave-up and wanted to return this because of this issue.

Yes, not able to recover your work after putting computer to sleep is really major productivity blocker.

I recently purchased an Inspiron 16 5630.  Had issues when coming out of sleep mode: Blue Screen, Windows Not Starting correctly etc.  Worked thru them but still coming out of sleep mode, Edged Closing Unexpectedely.  Got replacement PC and same thing but not only Edge, All open Micrsoft Home and Business apps, File Explorer, and even My Dell would not be open when coming of out sleep mode.
But strange thing it only occurred when two conditions were present 1) The power adapter was plugged in (ok one time it happened on battery) and 2. It had to be in sleep mode for more than just briefly, seemed 2 hours was the most persistent but ALWAYS if sleeping overnight with power plugged in.
Dell has reinstalled Bios and Chipset but problem still persists.  It is a real pain because any open file or page has to be recovered.
Dell has stopped working with me to resolve, they say it is a Microsoft issue. I have sent them this article and am hoping Dell Tech Support and/or Advanced Resolution Services will respond.  But I get the feeling Dell is done with me and I am being ghosted.
