Windows 11 on RAID-0 array boot failure

I have replaced the SSD in my machine with two Samsung 980 PRO 2TB SSDs.  Before I did this I used Samsung software to replicate the original SSD onto one Samsung 980 Pro.  Then I used the Intel Storage Manager software to create the RAID-0 array with the procedure identified to work with an OS that was already installed.  It seemed to work fine, until I tried restarting the system.  Now I get the error below:

Dell XPS Boot ErrorDell XPS Boot Error

I have tried everything to correct this error including all listed below:

  1. Used Dell Support-Assist to Repair Startup Errors
  2. from Command Window ran the following:

fix-mbr.png

  1. Used Dell Support-Assist to Reinstall the OS
  2. Created a bootable USB drive so I could run a disk partition application, deleted all partitions, then used Dell Support-Assist to Reinstall the OS.
  3. Created a clean Windows 11 Setup and Bootable USB drive with the Rufus app and installed Windows from this

Every single time I get the Boot Error in the image above.  I have all BIOS setting at default.

Any help is appreciated.

I was wondering if you would share the procedure you refer to a setting up a RAID array, possibly a link?

You are or are not using the Samsung drivers for the 980 Pros?

Does the system boot with just the one drive?

Would you supply the full model number of your system so we can check its specs.?

How is the SATA controller set in the Bios, RAID?

Does that system have Optane memory?

I ran into this same issue with a Precision 7770 and Samsung 980 Pro. Any raid configuration with these drives results in the boot message you posted. I tried 2x Raid 0 4x raid 0 and 4x raid 10 and they all gave the same results. Single 980 pro boots and works fine but one thing with 4x raid 10 I noticed the raid set went to a failed state after trying to install windows. The first two drives reported as healthy but the second two would be in a failed state. What controller does your XPS have? the 7770 is a 12th gen RST VMD

same here with XPS 9520 & 2 Samsung 980 PRO 1TB each. created RAID0 and same issue exactly happened even dell support failed terribly to find a solution and starting in maneuvering like why you need RAID , one drive is fast enough and eventually with this amount of ignorance & lack of knowledge i deleted the RAID array.

Well, shucks.  I wish I had known this before I bought the two 4TB Samsung 990 Pro drives for my XPS 9720.

I just came across this.  I got a Dell XPS 9520 and successfully configuring RAID0 on 2 spare (random) M2 SSDs and installing Windows 11 with no errors.

I then purchased 2 Samsung 990 Pro 1 TB and configured RAID0 and get the boot up error.  RAID1 works fine.  Non-RAID works fine.

Still no resolution?

@rmeadejr unfortunately it seems it’s some sort of a bug and the answer you will get from dell ,  why do you want raid , isn’t one drive fast enough?
I learned two things from this , i will use the 2 drives separately without Raid and my next laptop will
NOT be dell !

It is possible to boot to Windows 11 in RAID0 with a 9520.  Here is a snip of one I did with random drives I had on the shelf.

My research continues

@rmeadejr do you think it’s about the Samsung drives not dell itself?

@Sherif.Ahmed Funny thing is those were 2 Samsung drives but they are "OEM" meaning they came in a computer from the factory.  I pulled 2 other Western Digital OEM 256s and was able to get Windows 11 installed and working.  I don't think it is a Dell issue as I have gotten it to work with other drives.  I don't think it is a size issue either because setup does finish and the machine does reboot.  I can browse the drive and see the file structure after install.  I have a feeling there is some kind of cache on the drives and it is not working with the RAID controller correctly.  But that is just my thought.

This can be resolved.

And there you have it. Large drives, RAID0 on a 9520.  Its not a Dell issue it is drive issue.  And why RAID0?  Because you can.

If anyone sees this later, these are the drives i got:

Aiibe 1TB Internal SSD PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 2280 up to 7450MB/s, Gaming SSD 1TB Internal Solid State Drive for Laptop, Desktop - X16Plus

after the raid 0 not working with 2 990 Pro 4TB, I've  noticed a new issue, My drive are working only in PCI-E Gen 3 not 4, maxes out at 4000MB each on sequential read on both drives. AHCI mode currently in use.
