XPS 13 9310, Touchscreen not working (SOLUTION)
XPS 13 9310
***Background up front, if you want to skip to the solution itself skip the background*** This is my first time owning a Dell and my first time posting in this community so forgive me if solution posts aren't allowed. If they are not and I should post this elsewhere, please let me know as it took me a long time searching and troubleshooting on my own to figure out why my touchscreen stopped working. The premium support rep that I was dealing with was awesome and worked with me a bunch during this troubleshooting, but unfortunately they were not able to provide a solution and the community posts I did read did not have the solution either so I want to make sure this information is out there. Some of the solutions I saw involved doing a system recovery and other needed steps that may be necessary in some situations but this is worth giving a shot first to see if it fixes the issue. For some reason a Wacom driver was installed on my laptop. This driver is for computers and tablets that use Wacom pen technology which my XPS does not. Disabling and uninstalling this Wacom pen driver followed by a restart fixes the touchscreen issue. I would also like to note that even after I uninstalled this driver, it did reinstall itself in a service pack, so I would ask that if a Dell rep sees this, they pass on to whatever teams they need to to resolve having to complete these steps in the future. ***End of background, onto the solution.***
***Solution***
- Go to Computer Management
- Go to Device Management
- Expand Human Interface Devices
- Locate the Wacom driver (it should have a symbol next to it indicating that it is in a trouble state)
- Right click this device and disable the driver
- Right click the device again and uninstall the driver
- Restart the machine
