XPS 13 Plus 9320, Touchpad malfunctioning

Hello,

I very recently received my new XPS 13 Plus 9320. I happily used it for about a week until one the day the haptic feedback from the touchpad suddenly began malfunctioning. It still functions mostly as a mouse (moving, scrolling, clicking), but the feedback only makes a sound and no physical feedback. All feedback intensity settings feel the same except 100% where the touchpad becomes unusable. At 100% intensity the touchpad automatically clicks about every second even when I am not touching it.

I've been in touch with Dell support and have an open ticket but nothing has helped. Restarting comp, resetting settings, reinstalling/updating drivers, restoring comp, and reinstalling windows 11 have not fixed it. Seems likely to be a hardware issue at this point.

Has anyone else experienced this? This issue makes for a poor experience using the touchpad and I am unhappy that a week-old machine would physically break without any apparent trauma.

Thanks!

Thank you and others for letting us know it didn't work. I have relayed this feedback to the Engineering team.

Is it just the haptics not working, or is your touchpad getting stuck/not working at all?

I also still have this issue. How do we upgrade the firmware on Linux? The provided link is an .exe file for Windows.

Can you let me know if it's still just haptics related, or if it is the touchpad that is not working at all?

For anyone still having this issue after updating the Firmware, please use Get Help Now (bottom right side of this page).

If you go through Get Help Now, please send me a PM so I can help alert the team about the issue (it should help speed up the process), I am usually on the forum M-F.

I appreciate you have asked us to press the Get Help Now button but I am busy, have already taken the matter up with Customer Service, and do not want to also spend further time as you suggest. Can you please assure us that Dell intend to provide a comprehensive fix soon?

I've had multiple issues -- for a long time my touchpad had haptics but kept getting stuck down, and then more recently it lost all haptics but then stopped getting stuck down. At the time I posted my last comment I had no haptics but it clicked properly.

Also as I mentioned before, when I message or call Dell they insist this is a hardware issue unrelated to software. I just had my fourth hardware replacement, which has fixed my touchpad issues for now, but the issues have come back after every other repair. The cycle of both waiting for software updates and also being pushed for hardware replacements is extremely time consuming. I appreciate all the work everyone is doing on this but would really like to know if it is a hardware or software issue, or if no one knows at this time?

My right click works, left click does not. Zero haptic feedback

My haptics have stopped working, so no right or left click, no click and drag.  (Expensive)laptop virtually unuseable.  Dell Support have now. said replace parts. I really do not have the time for this right now, I feel very badly let down by Dell.

I've been running the latest firmware update for 5 days now, and so far, clicking and haptic are both working.  However, haptic feedback (strength of the "click") remains uneven across the entire surface. Clicking or touching with the wrong amount of pressure occasionally results in an unintended drag no matter how I set the sensitivity. Accuracy of the touch pad remains awful compared to prior XPS generations. I now use a BT mouse when possible. Sometimes a click or touch registers, and other times it needs a great deal more force.

Compared to my excellent 9370 XPS 13 that this 9320 replaced, the touch pad, mechanical and capacitive touch keyboards are truly garbage and an incredible disappointment.

I use a feather 🪶 to operate my 9320 touchpad (move and such). To click - ya definitely don’t want to physically make contact with the touchpad. Instead, just give it a good hard stare to make it click.

I think the touchpad is making me lose my mind…

I will never buy from Dell again. I can't believe I spent so much money on a computer with this problem.

An engineer came today and replaced my palmrest in which touchpad is located. So far, all seems ok, and hopefully that will remain the case. but I`m not confident moving forward in view of some experiences here.  However, I think I should say that Dell Technical Support have been very helpful and tried to sort this out quikly for me.

We have still been sharing feedback with our teams on this. From messaging I have received it has helped some customers but not everyone.
