XPS 13 Plus 9320, Touchpad malfunctioning

Hello,

I very recently received my new XPS 13 Plus 9320. I happily used it for about a week until one the day the haptic feedback from the touchpad suddenly began malfunctioning. It still functions mostly as a mouse (moving, scrolling, clicking), but the feedback only makes a sound and no physical feedback. All feedback intensity settings feel the same except 100% where the touchpad becomes unusable. At 100% intensity the touchpad automatically clicks about every second even when I am not touching it.

I've been in touch with Dell support and have an open ticket but nothing has helped. Restarting comp, resetting settings, reinstalling/updating drivers, restoring comp, and reinstalling windows 11 have not fixed it. Seems likely to be a hardware issue at this point.

Has anyone else experienced this? This issue makes for a poor experience using the touchpad and I am unhappy that a week-old machine would physically break without any apparent trauma.

Thanks!

Is there any progress on a new firmware and fix? Currently walking around with what is essentially a brick right now since i can't use it without incredible frustration

For me, after my third trackpad replacement, the actual hardware seems to be fine this time around. I started using a different charger after my third one because my theory was that the Dell charger was overpowering it and shorting something out...idk. Willing to try anything. But it seems like it may have worked as far as the hardware goes.

Now my issues seem to be strictly software related. 70% of the time, it is fine. But often times, if I close the laptop lid for an extended period of time, the haptic feedback will not be there at all when I open the laptop back up again. I can move the cursor, but it will highlight any text in its way as if its stuck in the "clicked" position if that makes sense. Usually, I can fix this by putting the laptop in sleep mode for a few seconds and it will be fine when I wake it. Other times, I have to shut the computer down entirely and reboot. What makes me think it is software is because when I am rebooting, I will regain control of the trackpad while the screen is still on and says "Shutting Down", but at that point I still have to go through with a reboot obviously.

Hi - I downloaded this driver yesterday and today am still having issues where the mouse gets stuck in left hand click and the computer essentially becomes unusable. I bought my machine in Aug 2022 and have had both the keyboard and the touchpad replaced once already, but this issue has been persistent throughout my time owning the device. I've also consistently had trouble with the speakers randomly not working, particularly frustrating when I get on calls. Often headphones work when the native speakers don't.

Would appreciate any help as this was an expensive machine and I feel like I spend most of my days looking for driver updates and other solutions for glitches.

Has anyone found the solution?

Mine has continued to work for the past 10 days since the most recent firmware update. I still hate the trackpad feel and precision compared to the prior generations, but the haptic and touch are still working.  Click+drag to select a section of text, or area of a graphic remains unreliable.

Was working well for a little bit, now when i click once, it continues to click anywhere from 3 to 12 times

Have given up with Dell finding a proper fix, making end users your beta testers for new hardware/tech is a very poor decision for Dell

When I try to install this firmware update, I get: "No Aito« devices were detected"

It may sound counterintuitive, I set the “Tap” sensitivity to the highest and the “stuck to clicking” problem was solved, at least for 2 days now.

A little update here. After the new firmware update, the touchpad "stucking" problem seems gone. However, there are still some issues with the touchpad.

It seems that sometime the touchpad cannot differentiate between touching and clicking. It will perform clicking when you are just scrolling with your finger and release the "click" when you remove your finger from the touchpad. (I have a video regarding this issue) It frequently happens when you use the touchpad just after turned on the laptops or opened the lid from sleep mode. It usually takes an hour for the touchpad to stabilize so that the pad can really tell whether you are just touching (moving the cursor, scrolling) or clicking. It happens with or without charging. Perhaps the sudden environment change, e.g., changing from lid closed to lid opened, will affect the touchpad performance.

The second problem is that the touchpad "stucking" problem will recurred when you close the lid for prolong period, e.g.  2-3 hours, with AC plugged in. I am thinking that the temperature rise during charging will affect the performance of the touchpad.

Hoping that there would be new firmware update about these 2 issues.

I found this problemn after 1 week. Dell finally sent a replacement out after replacing the touchpad and updating all the software. The new one has the exact same issue so I now have 2 laptops I do not want.

DELL - this is really poor for a premium device. I have emailed you 4 times and not had a response.

My advice to anyone reading this is do not buy one with the touchpad - they simply do not work properly.

This is so so so ridiculous. Has this issue even been escalated despite this thread having clear documentation that this has been an issue over several months for many many people?

same issue(s) with Dell XPS 13 touchpad, sent to Dell for service x3 for same issue. Constantly misfunctions, namely on left lower touch area.  Will depress, then NOT reset, if clicked in area, will sit there by itself clicking and depressing itself.  Always has been an issue and there is NO solution.  Just simply a bad system design in which, unfortunately, we'll have to live with.  Would NEVER purchase this unit again, and prefer the old touch pad functionality instead of the new, virtual/sensory design - garbage for 2500 bills.

I had the same issue, especially it clicking all by itself. It does appear there is a solution, involving downloading some specific software updates/drivers. Unfortunately, I don't recall the specific software to download. I had gone to supportassist (downloaded on the computer), and messaged the support on the chat, and they used remoteassist. Which allowed them to "remote control" the laptop and find and download the drivers/updates to fix this for me. I'd recommend doing that, just letting them take remote control and downloading the drivers/updating it

(we did discover that after updating/installing the drivers we had to unplug the laptop from power, hold the power button till it turned off, continue to hold it for 15-20 seconds, plug it back in once it's off and then turn it back on for the update to take effect. Since the traditional restart didn't work, something about "residual-power"? Something to take note if downloading the new drivers/updates didn't work.
