I'm looking at buying an XtremIO brick off eBay. Do you need a service contract to download the XtremIO XMS ova? If so how much does it cost?

Yes a service contract is required to download any XIOS software and XMS Software. I cannot quote the pricing but you can check at support.dell.com and look under the XtremIO group.
