17 R5, battery replacement issue

Hello, I am working on a relatives Alienware 17 R5 (warranty expired August 2021) Laptop and am running in to trouble with it. Here is what is happening so far.

  • Laptop will not turn on at all while battery is connected.
  • Battery has been replaced with an OEM Dell Battery (NOT A 3RD PARTY BATTERY)
  • I have 2 OEM Dell Chargers (180W and a 240W) for this laptop, issue persists with both chargers.
  • Laptop turns on perfectly fine when running on AC while the Battery is disconnected.
  • When AC is plugged in with battery connected, the LED's on the side flash red a few times and then stop.
  • I have disconnected the CMOS Battery and reconnected it.
  • I have checked the DC In connection to see whether it was connected properly.
  • RAM has been tested.
  • BIOS is update to date.
  • Windows 10 is up to date.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what the issue could be? I feel like I've exhausted all options.

Hi @jmane2009 welcome to this user to user discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.

Please create Battery Report to see if OEM Dell Battery vendor has provided the new Alienware battery order. The battery must have a valid white label that includes D/PN (68Wh D/PN = 44T2R or 99Wh DP/N = 9NJM1) and beneath the square matrix the year/month date must be less than six months.

Ordering the new OEM battery replacement on Amazon, gives additional protection.

Please click on Kudos to say thank you for response from user that is not employed by Dell. Please share an update on progress, so that other users derive benefit from your experience. Thank you.

I cannot create a battery report, because the laptop will not turn on while the battery is connected.

The battery is a 44T2R and I can find no date on the battery.

Hi @jmane2009  thank you for sharing update.

Please contact OEM Dell Battery vendor with clarification that this battery with no white label, is dead out-of-the box and request a battery that works, has not been used and is less than six months old.

If OEM Dell Battery vendor refuses to supply new replacement battery or full refund, be prepared to report this fraud and request refund to your card/bank provider. This battery is not as ordered, vendor is legally obliged to pay for its return and safe disposal. It is not acceptable for vendor to get you to arrange and pay for safe disposal of this dead battery.

Please share an update on progress, so that other users derive benefit from your experience. Thank you.

Quick Tip: If your laptop has voltage / charging issues, try shutting it down, unplugging power from laptop, hold power button down for 30 seconds to do a full reset!

This battery image has no white label and getting a good OEM replacement is increasingly difficult.  Amazon link says, Currently unavailable: We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock.

The https://www.amazon.com/ link is world wide, so everyone should be seeing the same information.

Very odd? Part numbers 44T2R and 9NJM1 do not appear in our parts tool?

Validated 17 R5 Dell OEM battery part numbers =

    01D82 LG, 99WHR, 6 Cell
    MG2YH Simplo, 99WHR, 6 Cell
    546FF LG, 68WHR, 4 cell
HF25D Simplo, 68WHR, 4 cell (this is the battery that shipped on their 17 R5)

Agreed that parts-people shows part numbers 44T2R and 9NJM1. But Dell cannot know where they got those numbers.

Those two part numbers do not appear in the Dell SPMD (Spare Parts Master Database) regions = Americas, AP (Asia Pacific), China, EMEA (Europe/Middle East/Asia).

    17 R5 =
01D82 LG, 99WHR, 6 Cell (sales mod part number WFXMM)
MG2YH Simplo, 99WHR, 6 Cell (sales mod part number 7FTT8)
546FF LG, 68WHR, 4 cell (sales mod part number PPJ33)
HF25D Simplo, 68WHR, 4 cell (sales mod part number JPH6C) (this is the battery that shipped on their 17 R5)
