Go to Solutionm15 R2, lid cover damage
HI Guys,
So I got my laptop few months ago now and was taking extra care of it not to get any scratch or dirt on it, given that I was using it with monitor and external keyboard and mouse.
However, for the first time I left my headphone on top of the lid, it left a black mark on it.
When I tried to remove it with water, cleaning solution, rubbing alcohol, nothing helped. So I tried with nail polish removal. It did the job, but at the same time it removed piece of laptop finish.
Now I cannot get my eyes of it and it is bothering me a lot. Is there any way to fix it or replace front lid cover? I was looking for it all over internet, couldn't find anything.

A wrap would be needed in this situation or if you want to replace it, theres ebay.

You might be right, but for some reason i am unable to remove my eyes from that scratch specially knowing that i did it ehh.
I was trying my best to find lids for it, but unfortunately given that this is a newer model i am unable to find any, for R2, only can find R1.
I also checked with Dell, and unfortunately they dont sell lid covers only and the entire screen housing costs USD 550 which is 20% of a laptop value :(.
I will give it a though of a wrap, but what i was thinking of actually trying to find HEX color code of this Lunar Light, and then take it to body shop for a small repair.
Searched entire internet to find HEX code but couldnt, by any chance anyone will know where i can find it?

Sadly, I just got into this situation. I saw a random stain on it and decided to wipe it with a cloth and no luck. Read on reddit to use rubbing alcohol and that was the nail on the coffin for me. After that the laptop got stained even more. I am thinking of using the nail polish remover but i'm not sure whats worse this black stain or that white peel. I contacted dell and alienware but they don't consider this a real issue. Investing so much just so a cloth could stain it is ridiculous. I checked the alienware skins on dell and i think they should at least be providing those for free at every purchase. Not sure what you think?

Nah dude if you wipe it with nail polish remover you’ll get a yellowish again instead of a black one.

Nail polish remover is largely acetone, which not only will further dissolve the paint, but also damage any plastic it touches.
The only fix for this is to replace the back cover or refinish it completely -- or cover it with something else.

I am trying to see if there is any information on how to clean these devices. It is such a shame that Alienware doesn't even provide information on these. Will check if maybe degreaser or leather polish works.

I checked on Ebay they seem to be selling for around 200us at the moment. It just to know that something like this could happen to anyone but instead of getting information directly from Alienware or Dell we gotta be asking people to test things out lol

If you search you'll find these available on Ebay and elsewhere, but the part is over $100 -- whether it's worth the cost to replace the cover for a small cosmetic imperfection is up to you.
You could also cover the entire lid with some type of wrap, which is also available for your system (Dell has these for sale for about $50).
