m15 R2, windows update, RTX 2070 disappeared
I have an Alienware m15 R2 laptop (i7-9750H, 16GB RAM, RTX 2070 8 GB QMAX, 2TB PCIE M.2 SSD), which will be 2 years old in January. Everything worked fine until 2 days ago, when I installed some missing windows updates. I think I messed it up with not restarting after each, instead I wanted to get it done in one go. The last one was the .NET framework, not sure if that has anything to do with the dedicated GPU.
So the Nvidia GPU just disappeared from the device manager but after several tries I managed to get it back as a hidden device under the display adapters using this CMD command:
SET DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1
After this I tried to:
- update driver manually from Nvidia downloads -> driver not compatible with windows, GPU not found
- update driver manually/automatically from dell downloads -> driver not compatible with windows, GPU not found
- update driver with GeForce experience -> driver not compatible with windows, GPU not found
- update to windows 11 -> disappeared even from the hidden devices
- find/enable DGPU in BIOS -> only the integrated GPU was present
- full factory reset
Nothing worked and after the full factory reset, now I can't get the DGPU back even as a hidden device, it completely disappeared even from BIOS.
In the Alienware Command Center the temperature of the DGPU is 1 degree (as it's not in use) and the fan is spinning so I suppose it's not a hardware issue.
If anyone would have an idea of what to do or experienced a similar issue, that would be highly appreciated.

I believe it's a hardware failure, send to service center if still in warranty?
