CIFS servers

Hi,

I am in process of populating our NAS on NS20 integrated and have a quick question for you guys.

I want to create 2 CIFS servers or maybe more then 2 CIFS servers, one for IT folks and rest for other departments. I have only 2 interfaces available. As there will be a global CIFS server for cava and it ll take one interface. Can i still create two CIFS servers or am i left with option of having only one cifs serveras there is only one interface left?

If i can have only one CIFS server what will be the best way to achieve this.

Thanks

That clarifies the point. You can very well create another IP Address (or more than one) on the fsn_01 device - it has to be in the same VLAN and subnet as the other two IP Addresses on the same fsn_01 device (unless you use VLAN tagging option).

So - in one word, the answer is YES - create another interface on the same FSN device and assign an available IP Address.

    Hope this answers your query.

Just a little bit more clarification on this.

I have an fsn_01 logical device made up of cge0 and cge1 for fail safe network. Then there are 2 interfaces for fsn_01 with 2 diffrent ip addresses. Can i just go ahead and create another interface for fsn_01 and assign a diffrent available ip address?

cge2 and cge3 are on diffrent subnet to keep iscsi traffic separate so i cant use cge2 and/or cge3. But i need another ip so can i use fsn_01 to give me another interface with diffrent ip.

I hope i was able to explain the situation.

What do you mean by Interface - is that the physical device or is that the IP address?

Each CIFS server requires an Unique IP Address, which in terms of Celerra called an "Interface". You may create multiple IP Addresses (or interfaces) on a physical device or a logical device.

In Celerra terms "Device" means the ethernet port on the data mover - it can be a physical device - like cge0, cge1 etc and or a logical device i.e. an etherchannel or lacp trunk or a fail safe network using the physical device.

So in other words, for 3 CIFS servers, you need to have 3 IP Addresses (Interface) but they can be on different physical/logical device or on the same physical/logical device.

    Hope this helps.

    yes you can

the CIFS server just needs a logical IP interface not a complete device

so you can create up to 512 IP interfaces on top of a phsical or logical device (like fsn or trunk) and use them

Normally these should be on the subnet, unless you use VLAN tagging
